History of Cadderly Bonaduce

Most of his childhood forgotten because of a heavily traumatic incident, Cadderly, then just called Cadderly of Caradoon, was a student of the Edificant Library training as a priest of Deneir. As far as he knew he had lived at the great library, which lies near the Snowflake mountains and a small town called Caradoon, for all of his life, and no one told him otherwise. Cadderly was eccentric though, for a priest, often forgetting his duties to the library while instead, searching for knowledge, and creating inventions, on his own accord. He had done such things as made a pseudo flashlight, out of an enchanted disk of light and a hollow tube, recreated a Drow crossbow from a tapestry, and made bolts that fit with viles of oil of impact. However, none of this was done for weapon purposes, at least in his mind. He simply loved creating inventions, and never in his wildest dreams did he think he would one day have to use them. When the library made him choose a weapon to specialize in he even sidestepped that by choosing the spindle disks, which is basically a really hard yo-yo. No one in years had done this, but it counted as a weapon, so the Library, and especially Headmaster Avery, a father figure to Cadderly who always worried about the young mans calling as a priest of Deneir, had to agree.

Along his way in his studies Cadderly made some very interesting friends and enemies. He fell in love with a feisty red haired woman monk named Danica who was so strong there was no one in the Library that could out wrestle her, even the burly priests of Ohgma who valued physique over all else, but he was never beyond his studies, constantly trying to trick her into giving away her combat secrets. He even attempted to grab her in a very public way just to see the "withering touch" a move that could make a limb go numb. Luckily she always had a good sense of humor about it. Opposing him in his pursuit of Danica, was a man named Kierkan Rufo who, sense early childhood, had been Cadderly's rival. Kierkan was a tall skinny and dark man who had a shrill laugh and a foul sense of humor... and when Cadderly snagged Danica, whom Kierkan secretly crushed over, it started a more intense rivalry than either of them fully understood at the time. A rivalry that would go far beyond just affection and jealousy. Cadderly also befriended two dwarfs who ran the kitchen. Ivan and Pikel, the Bouldershoulder Brothers, who were long past adventurers who had hung up their boots to cook for the priests of the Edificant Library. At the head of the library was headmaster Avery and headmistress Pertelope.

Ever since Cadderly was a boy Headmaster Avery has been a bit of a father figure to him, always strict, forever reminding him of his duties, constantly lecturing about being an inventor and not a priest, but always acting kindly to his young protégé. Headmistress Pertelope is something entirely different though, apart from her outwardly severe appearance she was always kind to Cadderly and encouraged his work. It was she who gave Cadderly the Book of Deneir (basically a bible), that he had read many a time before, but she counseled him to read it differently, to "listen for the song of Deneir", something that would change Cadderly's life forever. When Cadderly unlocked the secret of the song he opened up a link to his god Deneir that made him one of the most powerful clerics in the world. The song playing in his mind, he became a divine instrument of Deneir's work on earth. Pertelope also had done this in her youth and she warned Cadderly about the consequences of not being able to control this power. She had forever maimed herself during the time of the Chaos Curse and her skin, underneath her unrevealing robes, was that of a shark. She told Cadderly that this would one day kill her, and that he had best exercise caution when using it.

The Chaos curse was an event that set young Cadderly to be an adventurer. Unbeknownst to the peoples in the Library, far up the land was a castle built into a mountain called Castle trinity, whose occupants were completely devoted to the Lady of Poison. One of the magicians there, a man named Aballaster, had been visited by an avatar of the poison goddess and told of a mystical formula that could made any man give into his primal impulses without fear of consequence. With the help of his imp Druzil they scowered the land and found all the ingredients. With Druzil's help Aballaster brewed the concoction and placed it in a flask enchanted emit a stream of endless smoke. This way the vapor would escape the flask and infect whoever came in contact with it. Though the Magician came in conflict with the head priest of the poison goddess, a man named Barjin, the plans were immediately set to attack the Edificant Library with the formula which they named The Chaos Curse or The Most Fatal Horror.

Cadderly, with the help of his friends, fought against the Chaos Curse and Cadderly himself eventually killed Barjin with his hand crossbow. It was not enough however to save many men's lives. Some priests had eaten themselves to death, overcome by gluttony. Others had fornicated until they died with the ever resilient priestess of Sune the love goddess. Cadderly's beloved Danica nearly killed herself by smashing her head into a huge block of stone believing she could break it. After Cadderly silenced the potion though, by placing it in a bowl of holy water, things slowly began to return to normal.

It was at this point that Cadderly and his three friends, as well as Kierkan Rufo (who had played an unwitting part in the release of the Chaos Curse), made their way to the great forest of Shilmistra, already under siege by Castle Trinity's army. It was here that Rufo's deception came to light when Druzil used him to ambush the companions and the Elf prince Elbereth. Again, Cadderly, with the help of his god Deneir and his budding powers, defeated the wizard Dorigen, who had been sent by Aballaster to head up this mission. However, instead of kill her Cadderly broke her fingers, and took her magical items, making it impossible for her to cast another spell. After this time, wanting to be on his own and not quite understanding his newfound power, Cadderly left the companions, thinking the armies of Castle Trinity defeated, and went to live in Caradoon.

At the same time Aballaster learned of Cadderly's newfound powers and made a incredible revelation, Cadderly was Aballaster's son whom he had left behind when he was banished from the Edificant Library. However he was growing annoyed of his sons influence and power, and contracted the most efficient band of assassins in the north to take Cadderly out. The assassin in charge of the operation was a man named Ghost who wielded a powerful magic item called the Ghearufu, which allowed him to switch bodies at will with his hapless victims. Cadderly survived the attack with the help of Ivan, Pikel, and Danica who had come to Caradoon to find him but, again because of Kierkan Rufo's deception, Headmaster Avery was put in the way of an ambush and killed. After they had escaped and Cadderly thought he had killed the head assassin, Rufo was punished for this third and most horrible offense. Cadderly took in the power of Deneir and placed upon Rufo the Brand of Deneir, a mark that made him stand apart from every other man so no one else would ever offer him kindness or help again. If Rufo ever attempted to cover the mark it would burn deep into his skull until it burned into his brain and killed him slowly and painfully. Finally, as Rufo ran form the room, Cadderly said his last goodbyes to the man who had been his father for so long.

Cadderly returned home one more time to the Edificant Library. It was here that he made the decision to go out on his own to destroy the evil Ghearufu that would have otherwise been studied and handled at the Library. It was also here that Headmistress Pertelope, with Cadderly by her side, died after suffering from her accident for so long. What then transpired is a long and twisting turn of events that led Cadderly to a dragons lair to destroy the Ghearufu, and then to Castle Trinity where he took on his father in an ethereal dimension, one on one, wizard vs. cleric, and Cadderly recovered the long lost memory of how his mother died. His father, experimenting with some forbidden magics, created a disembodied sword that killed his mother, and after that Aballaster Bonaduce was banished. Realizing this, as Aballaster was preparing a lightning spell that would kill Cadderly, the young priest had no more regrets about opening up a chasm in the ground that swallowed Aballaster whole, and then closing it with the finality that only death can bring.

This was not the end of the story for Cadderly and his companions however. Though Castle Trinity was destroyed, and Aballaster was most assuredly dead, Cadderly still faced the demon Druzil, and Kierkan Rufo, who, mad with vengeance, had not only unleashed again the power of the Chaos Curse, but drank the potion whole, becoming one of the undead, a vampire of the highest level. This new challenge before him, Cadderly and his companions, accompanied by the female wizard Dorigen who had repented her crimes, confronted the vampire Rufo and Druzil and at the end of an epic battle, Cadderly destroyed Rufo and banished Druzil to the abyss. The Library all but destroyed however, and many dead, Cadderly found a new calling. With the powers of Deneir, he raised a new Library from the very earth, piece by piece he created the ultimate temple to Deneir and a place of knowledge that would last forever. The process aged him considerably, and for a while Danica feared Cadderly would die from it, but thankfully he recovered slowly as it neared completion, right on time for him to help Drizzt Do'Urden find Errtu, the demon who was holding Wulfgar hostage.

Cadderly's service again were needed by Jarlaxle to destroy the Crystal Shard, he did so. The Crystal Shard is no more.
